What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme was launched on 23 rd May 2022 and will remain open for the next 3 years. A total of £450 million in grant funding has been made available.

What are the current grants available?

Grants of £5000 are available for purchasing air source heat pumps, and £6000 for ground source heat pumps. It is estimated that 75,000 – 90,000 household owners will benefit from these grants.

Is there any other financial support available?

The VAT on installing energy saving materials, including heat pumps, has been set at 0% from 1 st April 2022 until 31 st March 2027 to help reduce costs. For more information, please visit The Value Added Tax (Installation of Energy-Saving Materials) Order 2022 – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

Who is eligible for this scheme?

The scheme is open to domestic and small non-domestic households in England and Wales. New builds are not eligible for the scheme, except for some self-builds that must a) have been built using mainly the labour or resources of the first owner, and b) never have been owned by a business or organization. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is also not available for social housing or any households that previously received government funding towards a heat pump or biomass boiler.
